چکیده

This paper dkcusses a higbfy stable, triple-integration noiseshaping technique and a precise differential pulse-width modulation (PWM) output method, which permits greater accuracy in monolithic audio D-to-A converters (DAC’S), without trimming. Based on these new techniques, using 1.5pm CMOS technology, a 17-bit 20-kHz bandwidth DAC LSI with d@d filters was successfully developed. An SNR (S/(N + THD)) of 101 dB and a THD of 0.0007 percent at full-wale input were obtained.

A 16-bit Oversampling A-to-D Conversion Technology Using Triple-Integration Noise Shaping

A highly stable triple-integration noise-shaping technology is dkcnssed which permits greater accuracy for monolithic audio A-to-D converters. Based on this new technology, using 2-p,m CMOS technology, a 16-blt 24-kHz bandwidth A-to-D converter LSIwith digital filters was successfully developed. An SNR (S\(N + THD)) of 91 dB and a total harmonic distortion (THD) of 0.002 percent at hall-scale i...

An Overview of Sigma-Delta Converters: How a 1-bit ADC achieves more than 16-bit resolution

This article briefly describes conventional A/D conversion, as well as its performance modeling. We then look at the technique of oversampling, which can be used to improve the resolution of classical A/D methods. We discuss how sigma-delta converters use the technique of noise shaping in addition to oversampling to allow high resolution conversion of relatively low bandwidth signals. Next, we ...

Applications of Polyphase Filters for Bandpass Sigma-delta Analog-to-digital Conversion

The traditional lowpass Sigma-Delta (Σ∆) based Analog-to-Digital (A/D) conversion principle has been recently extended to bandpass for direct IF conversion. Such converter offers high Signal-to-Noise (SNR) ratios for narrowband signals relative to the sampling frequency, at significantly lower oversampling ratios in comparison to the conventional lowpass Σ∆ converters. In this paper a sixth-ord...

Linearity Enhancement of Multi-bit A/d and D/a Converters Using Data Weighted Averaging

A dynamic element matching algorithm, data weighted averaging, is introduced for use in multi-bit data converters. Using this algorithm, distortion spectra from DAC linearity errors are shaped by rst-order noise shaping, resulting in a dynamic range improvement of 9 dB/octave when DAC errors dominate. Combining this technique with random dithering eliminates the aliasing of the DAC errors into ...

Design of CMOS Sigma-Delta modulators for audio applications

Sigma-delta ADC, not only has adopted the technology of oversampling, but also utilized noise shaping which modulate the quantization noise in the baseband to the high frequency area. It increases the SNR in baseband and the effective quantization number of the converter. Because of the modulation technology, it makes sigma-delta ADC allowed to use one bit comparator, in addition Conventional N...
